What it's about

Spoiler level: No — for the synopsis & review below

Graduate student Jeongah Lim falls asleep after reading a novel and wakes as Robellia, the empress married to tyrant Alexandros II. In the book, he reserves his affection for another woman, so Jeongah plans to spare Robellia a miserable future by ending the marriage. Yet each attempt to push the emperor toward a divorce only catches his attention. She must navigate the court and his changing behavior while holding onto her goal of a life on her own terms.

Ch. 02 · Our verdict

My take

Robellia’s refusal to accept the miserable role written for her gives the story its most satisfying energy. The emperor’s growing interest complicates what should have been a simple escape, creating an often exasperating push and pull. Enjoyment will depend on whether you can tolerate a romance that asks you to reconsider a husband the heroine has good reason to leave.

✓ Read it if…

Jeongah approaches her predicament with a concrete plan, so the imperial court feels like a series of obstacles to negotiate rather than a backdrop for waiting to be rescued. Her efforts to change Robellia’s fate keep the premise moving.

! Skip it if…

The central relationship begins with a cold and neglectful husband. Readers who need the heroine’s divorce goal to remain final may dislike the story’s interest in his changing feelings.
