What it's about

Spoiler level: Minor — for the synopsis & review below

Baroness Eleanor Mariche has built an independent life as a successful novelist and discreet relationship adviser. An ambitious duke hires her to persuade his son, Count Ryan Calabria, to marry the princess—an assignment that should require only observation and tact. Ryan has no interest in the proposed match, however, and his attention settles on Eleanor instead. Their growing attraction threatens the duke's political plans and provokes a princess accustomed to getting what she wants. Eleanor must protect her reputation and livelihood while deciding whether a romance with a powerful younger noble can ever belong to her rather than to the people trying to use it.

Ch. 02 · Our verdict

My take

Eleanor already has work, social standing, and reasons to value independence, so Ryan's attention disrupts her life rather than giving it meaning. Their chemistry is direct and often sensual, and his earnest attachment balances his privileged confidence. The court antagonists, especially an entitled princess, can feel exaggerated, and misunderstandings fill some stretches. It's an appealing completed romance for readers who want a composed heroine negotiating desire, work, and status.

✓ Read it if…

Eleanor's career and emotional maturity set her apart from school-age or freshly reincarnated heroines. Ryan falls hard without being the only active person in the romance, and their attraction feels physical as well as sentimental. Elegant clothes, public scandal, and a woman defending the life she built make it consistently appealing.

! Skip it if…

The princess becomes cartoonishly malicious, flattening what could be a nuanced conflict. Class power still favors Ryan, and his persistence may feel intrusive if you're sensitive to boundary-pushing courtship. Several complications rely on delayed communication, and there's no villainess-isekai twist here despite the title.
