What it's about

Spoiler level: No — for the synopsis & review below

Lariette Blanche learns from a doctor that she has a rare illness and only three months left to live. Shocked but unwilling to spend that time waiting, she makes a list of experiences she has always wanted and begins changing her life. Then she discovers the diagnosis was wrong. The freedom she claimed while believing she was dying has already reshaped her relationships and plans, leaving her to decide which parts of that new life she wants to keep.

Ch. 02 · Our verdict

My take

The mistaken diagnosis gives Lariette permission to act on wishes she previously postponed, and her enthusiasm is easy to follow. The story’s playful romantic energy works best when it stays close to the consequences of those choices. Readers looking for a sober medical drama should expect the illness premise to serve a fantasy-romance reset instead.

✓ Read it if…

Lariette’s problem does not vanish when the good news arrives: she still has to live with the promises and connections she made. That gives the wish-fulfillment premise a more interesting question than whether she survives.

! Skip it if…

The false terminal diagnosis is a big contrivance, and the story treats parts of it lightly. If you need realistic medical decisions or an understated response to a death scare, its buoyant tone may feel jarring.
