What it's about

Spoiler level: Minor — for the synopsis & review below

Kim Yumi is an ordinary office worker whose thoughts are visualized as a bustling city of specialized brain cells. Rational Cell, Emotional Cell, Love Cell, Hunger Cell, and countless others argue over every message, date, embarrassment, and career decision. After a painful breakup leaves Love Cell in a coma, Yumi slowly reenters the world of relationships and creative ambition. Different partners bring out different parts of her, but the series never treats marriage as the only possible happy ending. Across years of work, friendship, dating, and disappointment, Yumi learns to recognize her own needs and become the primary character in her life.

My take

Yumi's Cells turns internal conflict into comedy, making tiny decisions like sending a text or admitting jealousy feel epic. Donggeon Lee shows that a relationship can be sincere and still not last, and breakups reshape Yumi without defining her as a failure. At 512 chapters there are uneven stretches, and some romantic arcs land better than others. It's unusually honest, funny, and compassionate about growing up.

✓ Read it if…

It's one of webtoon's richest long-form portraits of an ordinary adult woman, with the cell metaphor making psychology accessible and often hilarious. Career, friendships, and confidence matter as much as romance. If you've ever overanalyzed a text or felt different versions of yourself arguing, you'll recognize the emotional logic instantly.

! Skip it if…

It's long, and the episodic rhythm can feel repetitive during quieter dating or work stretches. If you get attached to one love interest, you may be frustrated when the story moves past that relationship. The cute cells may not suit fans of realistic drama, and painful breakups interrupt the comfort.
