What it's about

Spoiler level: Moderate — for the synopsis & review below

Due to her terminal illness, Princess Juliet has spent her entire life inside the Rozenta Kingdom's palace without any peers to talk to. So she's delighted to meet a kind young servant named Lete who provides her with much-needed company. However, their pleasant strolls end abruptly when Juliet is suddenly told to marry the archduke of Herventel, Enoch Letrachi. What comes as a greater shock is that Lete is actually Enoch, and that he has refused to see Juliet until she signs the marriage papers! Can Juliet find happiness when her trust in her husband-to-be has already been shattered?

Ch. 02 · Our verdict

My take

A dark, intense read that subverts common romance fantasy tropes with unhinged character dynamics, heavy angst, and atmospheric storytelling. Juliet's loneliness makes the initial companionship meaningful, which also gives the concealed identity a sharper emotional cost. The romance is most compelling as a question of trust after that comfort is withdrawn, although the prospective husband's demands make the relationship difficult to enjoy as a straightforward rescue from isolation.

✓ Read it if…

Juliet's isolation makes companionship feel important before the marriage arrangement takes over. That gives the concealed identity a personal cost rather than treating it only as a surprise, especially if you enjoy romance built around questioning whether a cherished encounter meant the same thing to both people.

! Skip it if…

The prospective husband's refusal to meet Juliet before she signs makes coercion central to the courtship. Her illness and isolation increase that vulnerability, so readers expecting a gentle rescue through marriage should be prepared for a relationship that starts by damaging trust.

When it hooked me

The hook for me is the gap between Lete walking beside Juliet and Enoch refusing to meet her before she signs the marriage papers. Knowing they’re the same person makes those earlier walks harder to read as simple kindness. I’m more interested in what he thought those meetings meant than in the hidden identity itself.
