Ch. 01 · The story

What it's about

Spoiler level: Minor — for the synopsis & review below

After her parents' deaths leave her crushed by debt, Lady Vanessa faces an arranged marriage to an aging earl chosen by her grasping uncle. To make herself unmarriageable, she decides to manufacture a scandal with Theodore, an attractive gardener who seems safe precisely because he has no title or fortune. But the closer their performance becomes to genuine desire, the more dangerous Theodore's secrets—and Vanessa's gamble—begin to look.

Ch. 02 · Our verdict

My take

Garden of May makes a familiar scandal-for-hire premise feel seductively volatile. Vanessa drives the story instead of waiting to be rescued, while the garden setting and exceptionally polished art give every stolen glance a lush, almost dreamlike charge. Theodore's hidden depths add mystery to the class-gap romance, though the story still leans on prolonged misunderstandings and possessive behavior that may test readers who prefer healthier communication.

✓ Read it if…

Come for the gorgeous historical artwork and a heroine bold enough to weaponize society's gossip; stay for the gardener with a concealed past, the dangerous fake courtship, and the aching first-love tension beneath every calculated encounter.

! Skip it if…

The romance includes a marked power imbalance, deception, jealousy, possessiveness, and slow-moving misunderstandings. Its chapters can also feel brief, and readers seeking a light or immediately communicative couple may find the melodrama frustrating.
