Ch. 01 · The story

What it's about

Spoiler level: Minor — for the synopsis & review below

At Wellston High, supernatural ability determines status, safety, and social value. John appears to be one of the powerless students routinely targeted by stronger classmates, yet his calm façade hides a past capable of destabilizing the school's entire hierarchy. His friendship with the exceptionally powerful Seraphina gives him temporary shelter, but secret organizations, vigilante activity, and escalating abuse pressure both students into confronting the system they inherited. As John's history resurfaces, the story shifts from a mystery about his ability into a prolonged examination of trauma, power, retaliation, and whether people shaped by violence can choose something different.

Ch. 02 · Our verdict

My take

unOrdinary is at its best treating superpowers as a social hierarchy, showing how Wellston's strength-equals-worth rules damage victims and bullies alike. John is a deliberately uncomfortable lead whose pain is understandable but whose harm is never excused. The long serialization repeats emotional conflicts, and his darkest stretch can be exhausting. The payoff is cumulative and earned, and the final season is now updating weekly.

✓ Read it if…

Consequences stick: victories don't repair reputations, apologies don't erase trauma, and changing the system takes more than beating one villain. John and Seraphina's friendship anchors the story, while the wider cast challenges the hierarchy from several angles, so shifts in loyalty and self-awareness feel earned.

! Skip it if…

The pacing is slow and repetitive, with long cycles of anger, confrontation, and refusal to communicate. Bullying and retaliatory violence fill much of the story, and John's behavior is hard to sit with. There's little romance, and the larger conflict is still unresolved while the final season runs.
