What it's about

Spoiler level: Minor — for the synopsis & review below

College student Hanna has run out of money, hope, and practical options when Devil Number 4 offers everything she wants in exchange for her soul. The bargain should be routine, but Hanna refuses to sign away the one thing still entirely hers. Number 4's failure threatens his standing in the infernal corporate hierarchy, so he keeps her close by employing her at his café and searching for the desire that will finally break her resistance. Everyday contact complicates the transaction. Hanna begins to see the person behind the sales pitch, while the devil discovers that caring for a human may cost more than the soul he was ordered to collect.

Ch. 02 · Our verdict

My take

Devil Number 4 balances absurd supernatural bureaucracy with real despair, since Hanna's poverty shapes how tempting the contract is. Number 4's growing confusion around compassion gives the romance its warmth, and the café setting lets it build through routine. Late mythology gets overcomplicated, and suicidal despair sits close to comedy, which can cause tonal whiplash. The completed ending earns its emotion.

✓ Read it if…

The devil-and-human premise delivers playful banter, visual charm, and a relationship built on shifting moral assumptions. Number 4's professional crisis becomes a believable path to empathy, and the supporting devils add humor. It's supernatural romance with emotional substance, a real resolution to the soul bargain, and without constant darkness.

! Skip it if…

Despite the bright art and comedy, the early chapters deal directly with hopelessness and suicide. Later supernatural rules feel dense or abrupt, and the romance grows slowly out of what begins as predatory sales pressure. Expect far more dialogue and reflection than action.
