What it's about

Spoiler level: Minor — for the synopsis & review below

Vampires have publicly surrendered blood-drinking and live under strict rules, but legal coexistence has not ended human prejudice. Baek Mari hides her identity at school after years of rejection and plans to avoid attention until popular student Jaemin becomes fascinated by her. The problem is not only that he is human: Jaemin openly despises vampires because of his family's history. Mari's attraction threatens the secrecy protecting her, while classmates and other vampires pressure her to decide whether passing as human is safety or another form of erasure. Their romance becomes a test of whether affection can survive fear learned long before they met.

Ch. 02 · Our verdict

My take

Orange Marmalade gives its vampire premise social weight by focusing on the exhausting work of hiding rather than predation. Jaemin's prejudice isn't treated as a cute obstacle, so his change requires real reckoning. The school drama leans on coincidence and the early art is modest, though the expressions carry embarrassment and longing well. Mari's wish to live without apology gives the romance its stakes.

✓ Read it if…

Mari's fear of discovery and Jaemin's contradictory attraction give secret-identity romance sustained tension. The vampire setting is accessible, and the conflict ties romance to belonging instead of using prejudice as background. Mari's quiet resilience and the bittersweet tone suit fans of older school webtoons that put feeling over lore.

! Skip it if…

Jaemin's hostility toward vampires makes the romance hard to root for until he changes, and Mari spends long stretches isolated and misunderstood. The discrimination metaphor is broad, and bullying, family conflict, and secrecy keep the mood angsty. Don't expect action-heavy vampire lore.
