Best Regretful ML Manhwa
The best regretful ML manhwa make him realize what he took for granted—and give the heroine more to consider than a pretty apology.
ML means male lead, and this trope follows a man who regrets hurting, neglecting, or misjudging the heroine. The appeal is that overdue realization: he finally sees the damage, but she does not owe him a clean slate. Sometimes the story builds toward understanding and healing; sometimes you keep reading because you want his confidence to crumble for once. Either way, the heroine's feelings need as much room as his remorse.
These six picks come from my ratings and reviews on Moonlight Toons, with the order guided by score and how well each fits the trope. There are changing husbands, dangerous dukes, painful misunderstandings, and apologies that have plenty to answer for. Some lean toward devotion, while others leave forgiveness open to debate. Several include abuse, sexual violence, pregnancy loss, or suicidal behavior, so check each title's content notes before picking your next emotional headache.
Quick picks
- Best overall: The Broken Ring: This Marriage Will Fail Anyway — A careless fiancé becomes devoted while his heroine's hidden history reshapes the romance.
- Best dark chemistry: Betrayal of Dignity — A proud heroine challenges a manipulative duke who cannot control every consequence.
- Best gradual healing: What It Means to Be You — Body swaps turn a broken marriage into a painful lesson in understanding.
- Best slow burn: The Problematic Prince — Beautiful period art frames a prince's selfishness and the long wait for accountability.
- Best amnesia drama: My Husband Who Hates Me Has Lost His Memories — He forgets their painful marriage; she cannot forget how he made her feel.
Our top 6 Regretful ML picks
1. The Broken Ring: This Marriage Will Fail Anyway
Inés chooses a playboy fiancé expecting an easy route out of marriage, but Cárcel's growing devotion complicates her plan in a beautifully drawn romance where past trauma makes trust anything but simple.
2. Betrayal of Dignity
Chloe's bargain with an arrogant duke becomes a battle of dignity and control, delivering dangerous chemistry and painful consequences even when Damien's emotional repair feels shorter than his manipulation deserves.
3. What It Means to Be You
Body swaps force Violet and Winter to confront their broken marriage from each other's side, giving his gradual reckoning real weight in a completed drama heavy on emotional abuse and suicidal behavior.
4. The Problematic Prince
Erna's hopes of saving her family home draw her into a scandalous prince's orbit, where gorgeous period art sharpens every humiliation and Björn's emotional accountability takes its frustratingly slow time.
5. My Husband Who Hates Me Has Lost His Memories
Theodore's amnesia replaces hostility with sudden affection, but Lily's lingering fear makes this completed marriage drama especially effective at showing why forgotten cruelty is not forgiven cruelty.
6. Wished You Were Dead
A curse prevents Evonne from revealing that she once saved the husband who now despises her, building toward devastating belated recognition in a completed story where remorse cannot simply undo abuse.
Regretful ML manhwa FAQ
What is a regretful ML manhwa?
ML stands for male lead, and a regretful ML story follows his remorse after hurting, neglecting, or misjudging the heroine. What It Means to Be You makes that reckoning unusually literal through body swaps that force a married couple to experience each other's pain.
What is the best regretful ML manhwa on this list?
The Broken Ring: This Marriage Will Fail Anyway is my highest-rated pick here, pairing a psychologically layered heroine with a careless fiancé who becomes a devoted husband. If you want a more sustained examination of a damaged marriage and difficult emotional repair, choose What It Means to Be You.
Are there completed regretful ML manhwa?
Betrayal of Dignity, What It Means to Be You, My Husband Who Hates Me Has Lost His Memories, and Wished You Were Dead are completed. All four involve emotionally difficult relationships, so choose by your tolerance for manipulation, neglect, and painful reconciliation rather than expecting a comforting binge.
Which regretful ML manhwa has an amnesia plot?
My Husband Who Hates Me Has Lost His Memories centers on a husband who loses his memories of his wife and begins treating her affectionately. The tension comes from Lily remembering the hurt he has forgotten, which makes his kindness unsettling instead of instantly reassuring.
Does a regretful male lead always deserve forgiveness?
Regret and redemption are different things, and an apology does not automatically make a romance convincing. Betrayal of Dignity and Wished You Were Dead are especially challenging if you need extensive accountability before you can support a reconciliation.

How we review manhwa
Every review, rating and reading guide on Moonlight Toons is written by one person, for readers. This page explains exactly what goes into a review, what the numbers mean, and how titles end up on our lists.
Who writes the reviews
Reviews, ratings and guides are written by Dawna A., a manhwa reader and the founder of Moonlight Toons. They're personal editorial opinions from a reader's point of view, not aggregated scores or publisher copy.
What we cover
Mostly Korean manhwa, with a focus on romance, fantasy and villainess stories. A handful of Japanese manga and Chinese manhua are included too; every title shows an origin badge (Manhwa, Manga or Manhua) so you always know which is which.
What every review includes
- A short synopsis that sets up the premise without giving away the ending.
- The review itself, plus why you'd like it and what may not be for everyone, so you can tell quickly whether a title fits you.
- Three scores out of 10: story, art and romance (see below).
- Tags for mood, tropes and the type of lead, which power the browse pages and the recommendation finder.
- Our own content rating (plus the platform's rating where we know it) and content warnings, listed plainly.
- Status and chapter count (ongoing, completed or on hiatus).
- Where to read it legally, with links to the official platforms.
How the scores work
Each title gets three scores out of 10, one each for story, art and romance. The overall score you see on cards and lists is the average of the three. Scores are personal judgments, so two titles with the same number can be great for very different reasons; the written review always explains the why.
Content ratings and warnings
Every title carries a content rating: All Ages, R15 (mature themes such as violence or emotional abuse), or R18 / R19 (adult content). Content warnings are listed on each title page so you can decide before you start.
These ratings are our own. They're Moonlight Toons' editorial classification, not the reading platform's, so they won't always match. A series WEBTOON lists as "Teen" or Tapas as "13+" may be R15 here. Platforms rate for their own audiences and rules; we rate on the themes and content of the story as we've read it, and we lean cautious when a story deals with abuse, violence or trauma. Where we know the platform's own rating, the title page shows it next to ours as "Platform rating". Always check the platform's rating too before reading.
18+ titles are locked. They never appear in public lists, guides or recommendations, and they can only be opened by a signed-in reader who has confirmed they are 18 or older.
Spoilers
Reviews stick to the premise. Each title page shows a spoiler level (none, minor, moderate or major) so you know what to expect before reading the review. Guides never reveal a plot twist; they tell you there is one.
Legal reading links only
We link only to official platforms, never to unofficial or pirated copies. Moonlight Toons isn't affiliated with any publisher or platform, and the links are there so you can support the creators by reading at the source.
How lists and guides are made
Our "Best of" pages and reading guides only include titles that have been reviewed and rated here, ranked by those scores and adjusted by hand where a pick suits a list better. Titles are never ranked in exchange for payment.
Keeping things accurate
Status, chapter counts and reading links change over time, and we update them as they do. Spotted something out of date or wrong? Email support@moonlighttoons.com and we'll fix it.

This policy explains what information Moonlight Toons ("we", "the app") handles and why. By using the app you agree to this policy.
1. What we store on your device
The app saves your shelf, reading progress, ratings, notes and preferences in your browser's local storage on your own device. This stays on your device and is not sent to us unless you sign in to sync (below). You can clear it any time from your browser, or via Settings → Back up / Restore.
2. Accounts and cloud sync (optional)
If you create a free account (email and password, or "Sign in with Google"), we store your email address, a securely hashed password (for email accounts) or a Google account identifier, and a copy of your shelf data, so we can sync it across your devices. We never see your Google password. You can sign out any time (your on-device data stays), and you can request deletion of your account and synced data by emailing us.
If you choose to unlock mature (18+) titles, we ask for your date of birth and store it on your account solely to confirm you are 18 or older. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or any other purpose, and it is deleted when you delete your account.
3. Comments and searches
If you post a comment on a title or blog post, your comment text, any photo you attach, and your display name are stored and shown publicly to other readers. Don't post anything you wouldn't want public. You can delete your own comments.
When you use Help me remember, we save the words you searched, which titles came up, and which one you opened, so we can improve the results. These searches aren't linked to your account or shown to other readers; to limit abuse we keep only a one-way scrambled form of your IP address. Saved searches are deleted after a year.
